Hence the name Onderkloof which means “below the valley”.
Helderberg Fire Watch is a community based volunteer fire service. Primarily vehicle based and consisting of highly skilled personnel. Core activities include Wildfire suppression, Rescues, Disaster relief and Fire Training.
Due to the recent huge fires experienced in and around the Helderberg area, a need arose for a volunteer based Fire Service. Helderberg Fire Watch was established in November 2017 and comprises of 3 full-time Officers and over 25 volunteer crew.

Gordon's Bay is the start of the Whale Route to Hermanus. Follow the R44S in the direction of Kleinmond and just outside Gordon's Bay is your first stop to view over False Bay and Gordon's Bay and you can be lucky to spot the Dolphins and Whales. The whale season is between June and December every year.
We have two little secrets where one is where the letter’s GB in the mountain come from and the other is the Danie Miller Hike. Well, the letter’s GB in the mountain do not stand for Gordon’s Bay but for General Botha – the name of the Naval Officers’ Academy in Gordon’s Bay. Now what has that to do with Danie Miller?
Take the R44 south from Gordon’s Bay to Kleinmond, you are at the start of the Whale Route and one the most beautiful scenic drives in the Western Cape, called Clarence Drive. It will bring you along the magnificent Hottentots Hollands Mountains on one side and the ocean coming ashore in False Bay.
