The South African Naval College in Gordons Bay will be hosting an open day on the 16th of September 2023, beginning with a Heritage themed parade starting promptly at 08h00, attracting visitors from around the Helderberg and surrounding areas.

The day will start with a parade led by the SA Army Band, SANDF members, businesses from the area and a host of others, along Beach Road. Events will begin after the entourage’s arrival at the college. There are a host of displays, competitions and exciting activities planned for the day.

The focus of the day is to support recruitment for all the arms of the South African National Defense Force, the South African Police Service and the Emergency Services. Career advisors will be available in the main hall to assist visitors with all the information they might need for the incredible careers that are being showcased! The market, hosting a variety of stalls, will be open and offering a variety of items for both young and old! Food stalls and a tea garden will also be available for refreshments during the day. Should anyone want a more grown-up refreshment, the Gordons Bay Yacht Club’s bar facilities will be open to all adults during the event.

Displays of all kinds will take place including precision drill displays, community displays, firefighting and a host of others! A race around the harbour on “Anything That Floats” will be taking place at 12h00, to raise funds for our local NSRI Station (Station 9). This will be most entertaining with participants taking to the water with their custom made “vessels”! The South African Navy will have short boat rides available from the harbour on smaller vessels including a 4m semi-inflatable boat and a Namacurra-class patrol boat. There will be a small fee of R5.00 per ride to cover harbour costs.

This promises to be an incredible event for the whole family and a fantastic opportunity for the youth to find a promising career supporting our amazing country!
