‘Dappat se Gat’ is a beach popular with surfers and locals, and has warm water, rocky cliffs and small caves that offer protection from the wind. It is not a recommended spot for swimmers due to the dangerous rip current but has a beautiful secluded beach and some caves to explore. To find Dappat se Gat travel approximately 10km on Clarence drive towards Rooiels until you see the shark spotters hut on the right hand side. Approximately 200m further on you’ll see a large parking lot and an entrance to the cliff path down to the beach.
Continuing along Clarence drive, while enjoying the spectacular scenery, you’ll arrive at the small conservancy village of Rooiels. Rooiels has a fantastic, unspoiled beach which is family friendly and has safe swimming. Clarence drive borders the Kogelberg Biosphere, which has been declared a UNESCO world heritage site, due to the diverse Fauna and Flora endemic to the Western Cape.
Visit the Harold Porter Botanical gardens in Betty’s Bay. This lovely garden is situated in the centre of the coastal Fynbos (Finebush) where the flora is at it’s finest and is suitable for gentle walks around the garden. For the more adventurous, you can tackle the Leopards Trail, named after the elusive Cape Leopard found in the area. The hike ends in a beautiful waterfall, situated at the end of the gorge.
Take a stroll…..
Walk, stroll or jog along the Monica Miles foot path which runs along Clarence drive and stop at the ‘Whale Look Out’. You can enjoy spotting whales, dolphins etc.
